Fede Alvarez was an unknown filmmaker from Uruguay. He spent around $300 to make a short video about a robot invasion in his country’s capitol. It was 4 minutes long and he called it Ataque de Panico!, which translates to panic attack.
He uploaded the video to YouTube on a Thursday. By Monday he said his inbox was flooded with offers from Hollywood. A bidding war ensued and he finally inked a deal with the producers of Spiderman…for $30 million.
Sounds hard to believe but it’s true. And congratulations to Fede for practically changing his life overnight…just by making a video.

incredibly impressive! Of course one has to know how on earth he did that…what tools, cameras, software, etc. etc. Do you know any that Dave? Heck – a single copy of Vegas Platinum is three hundred dollars – and I don’t remember seeing the “robot animation” VideoFX in there anywhere!
No wonder he got offers…

To do this kind of thing requires INSANE amounts of time animating and in After Effects & 3D composting programs…
And his credit list includes things like “catering”…

Good Story Great Video, But I am a Sci Fi Nut!
I have to echo “brooks” remarks about how he created the special effects in this one. Any thoughts Dave on how he did this? Very good and realistic.
Have a hard time believing that he did this for 300 dollars. But, if he did – I want to know the tools he used.
This is quite an inspiring story and video. Gives me hope that I, too, could make something as good as this.
