WVU #22 – All About Flash Video
Posted by Dave on Jan 23, 2009

I am having problems with your videos playing. I have upgraded to the latest version of Firefox and Flash 10 player. Right now, this video just shows a black screen in both.
This is not the only video that has given me problems. The video about the new clubwvu would not play in Firefox.
Please advise.
thanks,
Ken
Hi Ken,
The videos on this site (video podcast site) are hosted through the video podcasting service Podango (podango.com). They have been upgrading their software this week, and as a result, videos hosted with them have been up and down all week. So if you just see a black box, it means any videos hosted at Podango are currently down (this is affecting thousands of people hosting video podcasts at Podango).
On the Club WVU site, those videos are hosted privately…through me. They are playing fine on IE and Firefox on Windows and Safari and Firefox on Mac.
Firefox is notorious for caching web pages and not refreshing them. So if you’ve updated to Flash Player 10 and still can’t see the videos, either close Firefox, reopen, goto clubwvu.com and refresh your browser…or…
In Firefox, choose Tools, Clear Private Data, make sure Cache is checked and click on Clear Private Data Now. That will clear your browser’s cache and you should see the videos fine.
Dave
Dave,
It seems a lot of people these days are just using the Amazon S3 hosting for hosting all their audios and videos. What is your take on this? Have you ever used it?
Yes Amazon S3 seems to be the way to go for hosting your videos in a independent servers, there are Bold, strong and affordable.
