How To Record Video Calls On Skype – WVU #82
One of the easiest ways to communicate through video is Skype. But what if you want to record your video calls on Skype, for example if you’re interviewing someone? Well, I share a very easy and flexible solution in this video.

Replay Telecorder for Skype

Handy to know, starting to skype more, it could come in useful!
Mac users have had an application from Ecamm.com called Call Recorder that does all that Replay does plus offers some additional utilities for creating MP3 files, splitting the incoming/outgoing audio/video streams and more. I’ve recorded over 300 video interviews with it and the product is solid, cheap and just works.
Thanks for sharing all your knowledge Dave. For Mac users like me there is a skype call recording service for $19.00 which you can download from http://www.ecamm.com. I think the only difference is that you can’t have a file for both recordings at the same time but you can do everything else with it.
Johanna – actually one of the options for Call Recorder, in addition to picture in picture, side by side, other and your camera, is you can have both sides as two separate recordings. There is also a utility provided using apple script to split a single Skype recording into two streams, which I find useful when the audio and video get out of sync. I love the transparency of the way it works by the way.
Hey Dave,
Any recommendations for a low to mid range cost flash converter?
Also. How do you get such good natural skin tones in your vids? (lighting, camera settings?)
Thanks!
@Todd – I’d recommend Flix: http://www.on2.com/index.php?316
And colors are a mix of lighting, camera and editing.
I wanted to weigh in for Mac users to say that Call Recorder is pretty darned fabulous! Does most of everything that Dave has described here related to the other program.
Hello Dave,
E-mailing from the coast in Queensland, Australia. I have 8,000/384 kbps yet your video (picture) is coming through in about 2 second hiccups as “stills” on either Safari of Firefox. The audio is fine. It’s really hard to get the gist of your presentation when audio and picture are not playing smoothly. I was under the impression that this problem should be overcome if one uses mirrored ISP’s around the globe. Is this true, and if so is it a cost factor which limits the use of that option?
@Tom – Service can be spotty in Australia no matter what content delivery network is being used…Australia doesn’t yet have network connections in place like other areas of the world.
Hey Tom – FYI, also coming in from the Coast in Queensland, but no problems at all with Dave’s audio or video.
Dave, I was wondering … with the big rush for hi-def on
the web and larger videos …. if I wanted to put just a
1 inch talking head video of me on a webpage, explaining
some vital concepts related to what I’m offering …
thus … saving bandwidth … and not scaring the bejesus
out of people by looking up my sinus passages in 3D ….
is that possible with programs … such as Vegas ..?
Or even A hi def version … but only an inch in size ….
I see the infomarketers videos are getting bigger
and bigger … and they’re getting fatter and fatter ..
I don’t see this addressed anywhere
@Professor – You can embed videos at any size you want on a web page…just be aware that the player controls may become inoperable as very small sizes (and viewers do prefer larger videos).
I hate when i watch an entire tutorial and the presenter waits until the end to tell you that the software is PC-only. I’m not going to buy Parallels just to run a little web application.
But Jeff … There’s apple’s software version of parallels
built into apple.new operating system
It’s amazing when someone jumps on a forum
that has helped so many people, just to be negative
and criticize. Definitely says something about how
their parents brought them up and also offends
all the regular users with their comments.

@Jack, point taken. Tact has never been my strong suit, but rather, speaking my truth and being honest and upfront to provide (what I hope is) valuable feedback. I apologize and didn’t mean to offend anyone. No need to make personal attacks and assumptions about my own child psychology. Can you clarify what your apple.new link is pointing to? It just takes me to the Apple homepage. Also, when I google Parallels, I see a $79.99 software but nothing shows up in the queue about a free version that’s built into the OS. You might be thinking Boot Camp, which requires partitioning your hard drive, installing a copy of Windows on that partition and restarting your computer in the Windows OS in order to use it.
I record my skype conversations with IMCapture for skype. It’s good program.
To record all kinds of conversations I use TalkAide for Skype.

thanks for information, but I prefer record Skype with IMCapture for Skype ( http://www.imcapture.com )
