Hi Dave,
Thanks for these recommendations. Can you recommend a less expensive external microphone for video cameras?
Thanks,
Lexi
@Lexi – I don’t really recommend inexpensive wireless mics because the quality is usually lacking (think potential headaches for you), but here’s a popular one:

Hi Dave,
Thanks for the tips, I have been researching where I can host my videos, now I have a better idea where to go.
I use MegaUpload for my files, ebooks, etc., for my subscribers. I can provide a download link to my subscribers and very affordable, especially for newbies.
Thanks much,
Dave…
Great as always Dave !
The gaming pcs you use, are you still using Windows XP ?
Or the dreaded Vista ….. Windows 7 ?
Here’s an item you might like to review
in the future that I’m sure you will enjoy and
there’s a free sample download…. A plugin
called SoundSoap …..
I’m in a very noisy area …
In the Summer, the A/C units are running …
This nifty little plugin for both windows and
apple computers has save my bacon (and
recordings – video and audio) on many
occasions.
Hi Dave,
Thanks for these great recommendations! I enjoy your videos.
Can you tell me where I could find the portable LED light kits you mention in your video?
Thanks,
-Don
@Don – coollights.biz and litepanels.com
Any one who comes across this blog. I recomend they do the video course. this was short sweet but so much knowledge was glossed over, it did not do you justice!
Hey Dave
Your videos ALWAYS rock!
Thank you so much – even though I don’t always leave a comment, I always watch your weekly tips videos.
All the best!

PS: Is there a way to get in touch with you personally?
Greetings….can you do a post explaining the home-made compact florescent light you created in this video? Looks like an inexpensive clamp light (http://tinyurl.com/29yvdf9) with perhaps a large discarded and cleaned can as a sort of snout, affixed with silver duct tape, which you put the diffusion over.
@doublejnyc – I plan on adding a full “do-it-yourself” course on all things video for WebVideoUniversity.com members…but it won’t be available to the public…just members.
Dave: Is there any benefit making MP4 vids over
flash vids with the on2 encoder and posting them
on Amazon S3 ?
It would probably be a lot cheaper and smaller
file size …
@professor – MP4 uses the H.264 codec which provides better quality/smaller files than Flash, but it requires more power on the viewer’s computer for decoding, which means some people may have playback issues.
Love your video tips, always useful!
Recently bought the usb mic you recommend but
doesn’t work on my 64 bit vista pc.
All settings are correct but doesn’t record. Know of anything I might be missing?
@Del – USB mics are plug-and-play and MXL mics work under Vista. It would either be a problem with your Vista settings or the software you are using to record. You can get help from MXL here:

Thanks Dave, found a little discrepancy in the Vista settings. Again, you and your website are a real help.
Hello Dave, I am following you from Spain in Europe and I really appreciate all your tips and information around video on the internet. I am a Real Estate Advisor on the South-East Coast of Spain – similar to Florida in USA – and do want to start a series of Video Tutorials for foreigners who want to purchase and sell properties in Spain. Most of the videos will be in-house, interviews, Screen captures, etc. I have a Canon HD Legria HF20 that does the job nicely I think, at least the visual part of it. But the main reason I bought this camera was because of the possibility to connect an external mic. Now I saw the Azden WMS-PRO you recommend further up, but I was investigating and there is no way I got it shipped from he USA to Spain. I guess it is because of its low price!? Do you have any suggestions for shipping or a similar mic I can get in Europe. Thanks for your help and all the best. Ulrich
