How To Shoot Green Screen Video Faster and Cheaper
There’s a big misconception with green screen video that I see all of the time. A misconception that usually costs people time, money and a lot of stress.
In fact, people are usually pretty surprised when they see professionals shoot green screen video…because it really brings this misconception to light.
So what is this misconception? I share it in the video above. And once you know it, shooting your green screen videos will become a lot easier.

Another excellent video – again, to the point!
Very useful tip, thanks Dave!
Excellent! I’m a novice and am not sure I’ll stick with this or not. But in the meantime, your tips and advice are so helpful. I just bought a screen and just yesterday I was trying to hide everything behind it and ended up being too close to the screen. What a timely tip! Thank you!
Hope this can be done with Sony Vegas Movie Studio.
Great video tip..I need simple video editor.any suggestions?

Movie Studio doesn’t have the masking feature in Event Pan/Crop as Pro does, but it does come with preset shaped masks that you can resize/feather and otherwise edit to achieve the same “Garbage Matte” effect as in this video.
Great tip. Unfortunately the matte cropping tool you used is not available in Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD (appears to be available only in the Pro version).
I do have a question about the technique, though. You cropped pretty closely to your body while on a frame where your arms are in a lowered position. This of course will garbage-matte the light stand and green-screen frame out of the scene. But once the video progresses along to the point where you are raising your arms and extending them out from your sides, won’t they too be garbage-matted out of the scene?
Hi Dave,
A few questions:
1: In Vegas 10 HD Plat. Studio when rendering a .mp4 file what settings works for WP blogs? Maybe there are some issues? For the file works outside WP and not inside (WP 3.2 + 3.3) I tried all CHMOD 755/777/644?
2: Where do I find the best digital backgrounds?
Could I just use a still picture (.jpg) behind my greenscreen recording? (what resolution is best for a 640×480 video (SD))?
But I surely would like a “digital” office and maybe some animated ones?
I am working with health and fitness so maybe you know some nice “healthy” backgrounds?
Have a Merry X-Mas and thanks for all your fantastic videos and help.
Best regards your former student “Netz”
