{"id":1008,"date":"2010-02-26T11:09:37","date_gmt":"2010-02-26T15:09:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/webvideouniversity.com\/blog\/?p=1008"},"modified":"2010-02-26T11:09:37","modified_gmt":"2010-02-26T15:09:37","slug":"wanna-buy-a-video-hosting-platform","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/webvideouniversity.com\/blog\/2010\/02\/26\/wanna-buy-a-video-hosting-platform\/","title":{"rendered":"Wanna Buy a Video Hosting Platform?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last week <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sesamevault.com\" target=\"_blank\">SesameVault.com<\/a><\/strong> went up for sale. \u00a0It&#8217;s a video hosting platform geared towards businesses who want to store, manage and publish web video. \u00a0It competes with the likes of BrightCove, Ooyala, Twistage, Kaltura and Episodic.<\/p>\n<p>The company originally raised around $2.5 million from private investors, however, they failed to secure another round of financing so the business went up for sale&#8230;<strong>on eBay<\/strong>. \u00a0Their eBay listing had a minimum starting bid of $500,000 (with a reserve). \u00a0After 7 days, they received zero bids and the auction closed.<\/p>\n<p>Most pundits believe their minimum bid price was way out-of-bounds. \u00a0While SesameVault did not disclose their revenue, they stated they have around 100 paying customers at anywhere from $49 to $199 a month, or in other words, not nearly enough revenue to justify even the minimum starting bid.<\/p>\n<p>They&#8217;ll likely get scooped up by someone at a discount price&#8230;not for their small customer base, but for their technology&#8230;so if you have a pile of cash that you&#8217;re willing to gamble (um, I mean invest), there is a commercial video hosting platform for sale.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Last week SesameVault.com went up for sale. \u00a0It&#8217;s a video hosting platform geared towards businesses who want to store, manage and publish web video. \u00a0It competes with the likes of BrightCove, Ooyala, Twistage, Kaltura and Episodic.
