{"id":1063,"date":"2010-03-10T10:53:18","date_gmt":"2010-03-10T14:53:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/webvideouniversity.com\/blog\/?p=1063"},"modified":"2010-03-10T11:08:50","modified_gmt":"2010-03-10T15:08:50","slug":"kaizen-the-secret-weapon-of-successful-companies-and-individuals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/webvideouniversity.com\/blog\/2010\/03\/10\/kaizen-the-secret-weapon-of-successful-companies-and-individuals\/","title":{"rendered":"Kaizen: The Secret Weapon of Successful Companies and Individuals"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A year ago I, along with two business partners, launched an online training business focused in the niche of &#8220;lean manufacturing&#8221;. \u00a0We primarily sell our products to businesses and individuals looking to reduce operating costs while also increasing productivity.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ve done very well and our business continues to grow which is exciting\u2026 but this article isn\u2019t meant to toot our own horn. \u00a0Instead, I\u2019d like to introduce what I feel is the most important word companies and individuals interested in success need to know \u2013 <em>kaizen<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/webvideouniversity.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/blog_kaizen2.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-1065\" title=\"blog_kaizen2\" src=\"http:\/\/webvideouniversity.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/blog_kaizen2.png\" alt=\"blog_kaizen2\" width=\"300\" height=\"153\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>The Kaizen Blitz<span style=\"font-weight: normal;\"> <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The word kaizen, which rhymes with dry pen, literally means incremental or continuous improvement. \u00a0Many \u201clean thinking\u201d organizations practice something called kaizen events which essentially consist of a small group of people coming to together for 3 to 5 days as they \u201cblitz\u201d an area of their business in hopes of making it better.<\/p>\n<p>Done right, kaizen blitzes are extremely powerful.\u00a0 I\u2019ve personally seen 80% productivity increases take hold in less than 4 days.<\/p>\n<p><strong>More Than An Event<span style=\"font-weight: normal;\"> <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>But, I\u2019m guessing many of you work alone or in very small teams, so the kaizen event may not be as applicable to you as it would to a company of 5,000 employees. \u00a0Does this mean kaizen is an irrelevant concept for you?\u00a0 Absolutely not.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, kaizen is much more than a rapid improvement initiative.\u00a0 Kaizen, taken in the right spirit, is a way of thinking and working that challenges the idea that we\u2019re as good as we can be \u2013 or need to be. \u00a0The kaizen mindset forces us out of our comfort zone and demands we ask a simple question, \u201cHow can we do it better?\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>4 Kaizen Ideas for Web Video Producers<span style=\"font-weight: normal;\"> <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>So how does this relate to you, the web video producer?\u00a0 How can you practice kaizen?\u00a0 Here are 4 tips I\u2019d like to propose.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Learn      something new each week.<\/strong> If you go through an entire week      without learning at least one new skill \u2013 even a small skill \u2013 you\u2019ve      missed a major opportunity.\u00a0      So, do your very best to learn something new each and every week.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Tidy      up<\/strong>.\u00a0 One of the \u201cfoundations\u201d of lean is something called 5S      which is a method of creating a clean and orderly workplace that exposes      waste and makes abnormalities immediately visible.\u00a0 Done right, 5S will drive your      personal productivity through the roof &#8211;
