A few months ago I did a post<\/strong><\/a> about a new DSLR camera from Canon called the 5D Mark II<\/strong>.\u00a0 What was notable about this camera is that it’s a DSLR camera (it’s designed to take still photos)…yet, it can also record high-definition video.\u00a0 Breathtaking high-definition video.<\/p>\n

When I did my original post, the 5D Mark II was not yet available to the public.\u00a0 Around a month or so ago it became available (with a price tag of around $3,400 USD) and video footage from this camera has started to trickle onto the web.<\/p>\n

So how does the video footage look from this camera when shot from the hands of an average person?\u00a0 Gorgeous.\u00a0 Just take a look below at a random clip I grabbed from Vimeo shot with the Canon 5D Mark II.<\/p>\n

But should you consider using this camera to shoot your web videos?\u00a0 While I haven’t yet had the chance to personally test the 5D Mark II, from what I gather, the answer is…maybe.\u00a0 The biggest complaint is that you have virtually no control over the camera whatsoever when shooting video…meaning you have no settings you can tweak.\u00a0 Not to mention there’s no viewfinder and you can only record 10 minutes worth of video.<\/p>\n

Or in other words, for the same amount of money, you’d probably be better off getting a pro-qualilty HD video camera from Canon, Sony or Panasonic.\u00a0 Still, you have to agree the footage out of 5D Mark II is amazing:<\/p>\n
