{"id":1856,"date":"2010-11-03T08:37:44","date_gmt":"2010-11-03T12:37:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/webvideouniversity.com\/blog\/?p=1856"},"modified":"2010-11-03T08:37:44","modified_gmt":"2010-11-03T12:37:44","slug":"apple-approves-web-browser-for-iphone-that-plays-flash-video-kind-of","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/webvideouniversity.com\/blog\/2010\/11\/03\/apple-approves-web-browser-for-iphone-that-plays-flash-video-kind-of\/","title":{"rendered":"Apple Approves Web Browser For iPhone That Plays Flash Video, Kind Of"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This week Apple approved a web browser for their app store that promises to play Flash video. \u00a0The browser, called <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.skyfire.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">SkyFire<\/a><\/strong>, doesn&#8217;t play Flash video directly, rather it jumps through some hoops to enable Flash video playback in iPhones.<\/p>\n<p>Since Apple mobile devices don&#8217;t support Flash and likely never will, SkyFire gets around this by transcoding Flash videos in real-time to the H.264 format. \u00a0For the end-user, when they land on a web site containing Flash video, the browser will automatically sense this and display a box with a play button. \u00a0When clicked, the video is then transcoded in real-time into H.264 on SkyFire&#8217;s servers for playback.<\/p>\n<p>The SkyFire browser only does Flash video&#8230;not any other type of Flash media&#8230;and will be available on Thursday November 4, 2010 for $2.99 via the app store. \u00a0A similar app from SkyFire is already available for Android \u00a0users.
