{"id":2065,"date":"2011-01-31T14:17:11","date_gmt":"2011-01-31T18:17:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/webvideouniversity.com\/blog\/?p=2065"},"modified":"2011-01-31T14:18:51","modified_gmt":"2011-01-31T18:18:51","slug":"android-takes-a-bite-out-of-ipad-marketshare","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/webvideouniversity.com\/blog\/2011\/01\/31\/android-takes-a-bite-out-of-ipad-marketshare\/","title":{"rendered":"Android Takes a Bite Out Of iPad Marketshare"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>According to the market research firm Strategy Analytics, the Apple iPad owned 95.5% of the tablet market up until the 4th quarter of 2010. \u00a0Android owned a meager 2.3% of the market. \u00a0But in the 4th quarter of 2010, things changed dramatically.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s when, among other devices, the Android-based Samsung Galaxy was released. \u00a0The result was a big drop for the iPad and a big boost for Android&#8230;for the 4th quarter 2010, Apple iPad owned 75.3% of the tablet market to Android&#8217;s 21.6%. \u00a0For all of 2010, it was 84.1 Apple iPad and 13.1 Android.<\/p>\n<p>But numbers can be funny. \u00a0Around 100,000 Android-based tablets had shipped up until 4Q 2010. \u00a0But in 4Q 2010, over 2 million shipped. \u00a0And you&#8217;d think that took a bite out of iPad sales. \u00a0It didn&#8217;t. \u00a0Just it&#8217;s marketshare. \u00a0Apple actually sold more iPads in 4Q 2010 (7.3 million) than they did in 3Q 2010 (4.2 million).<\/p>\n<p>In other words, a lot more people are buying tablet devices&#8230;overall. \u00a0In fact, it&#8217;s estimated that 17 million tablets shipped in 2010 (14 million of those being iPads). \u00a0And for 2011, it&#8217;s estimated that 44 million tablet devices will ship. \u00a0So the question is, are you videos optimized for these devices?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>According to the market research firm Strategy Analytics, the Apple iPad owned 95.5% of the tablet market up until the 4th quarter of 2010. \u00a0Android owned a meager 2.3% of the market. \u00a0But in the 4th quarter of 2010, things changed dramatically.
