By now we’ve all heard how television broadcasting in the United States was supposed to switch from analog to digital on February 17th.\u00a0 And we’ve also heard how that date has now been pushed back until June…because well, it’s a real mess.<\/p>\n

But what you may not know is how this change (if it ever actually happens), can affect your video recordings.<\/p>\n

Huh?<\/p>\n

What I’m talking about specifically is if you happen to use wireless microphones to record the audio for your videos.\u00a0 You see, quite a few of these microphones work on a frequency that will be taken over by police and fire (emergency) transmissions.<\/p>\n

And the FCC is pushing to make it illegal for anyone to broadcast on these frequencies (yes even you, recording a video promo for your web site, in your basement, using a wireless microphone).<\/p>\n

So is this something you should panic about?\u00a0 Probably not.\u00a0 But it is something you should be concerned about.<\/p>\n

The technical wizards at Sweetwater<\/a> (who happen to be headquartered just a few miles from where I live) have done a write-up that explains what you need to know.\u00a0 Their article also details upgrade options to your existing wireless microphone setup.<\/p>\n

If you’re currently using wireless microphones, it’s important that you at least check this article out…so you can understand what these changes are all about…and how they may effect you.<\/p>\n
