I can remember a former U.S. President, back when he was the active President, commenting in amazement about how supermarkets use scanners at the checkout line (a practice that had been in use for over a decade at the time).<\/p>\n
Today there is a U.S. President who does weekly video addresses via YouTube.\u00a0 Times have changed.<\/p>\n
And much has been made about the new President’s use of new media…video, blogs, Facebook, text messaging and more…both during his campaign and his presidency (so far).<\/p>\n
Some have suggested that the Internet and new media won the election for Obama.\u00a0 While that’s probably a bit of a stretch, what is evident is that his use of new media did play a role.<\/p>\n
But who exactly was behind his 3 million Facebook friends, 10 million YouTube views and the text messaging that notified his followers of important news…including the reminder to vote on election day?<\/p>\n
Was it Washington insiders?\u00a0 Was it big name tech veterans?\u00a0 Was it elite political analysts?\u00a0 Nope.\u00a0 It was a farily small group of young, intelligent and entrepreneurial new media folks.<\/p>\n
Vallywag<\/strong> recently did a post about who the people were behind Obaman’s new media blitz…what they’re up to now…and how they have, or are trying, to cash in on their new found fame.<\/p>\n It’s a short, interesting read.\u00a0 But it also shows how just a few can accomplish so much…by simply leveraging technology that is already available to all of us (and our businesses).<\/p>\n
