{"id":2418,"date":"2011-08-04T21:48:00","date_gmt":"2011-08-05T01:48:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/webvideouniversity.com\/blog\/?p=2418"},"modified":"2011-08-04T21:48:00","modified_gmt":"2011-08-05T01:48:00","slug":"clickbank-to-start-cracking-down-on-people-who-sell-stuff-on-clickbank","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/webvideouniversity.com\/blog\/2011\/08\/04\/clickbank-to-start-cracking-down-on-people-who-sell-stuff-on-clickbank\/","title":{"rendered":"ClickBank To Start Cracking Down On People Who Sell Stuff On ClickBank"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Lots of people sell their products on ClickBank. \u00a0And lots of people do affiliate marketing where they promote ClickBank products. \u00a0In the world of Internet marketing, ClickBank is usually the place the latest &#8220;breakthroughs&#8221; are released. \u00a0It&#8217;s also more or less synonymous products loaded with hype. \u00a0But that&#8217;s about to change.<\/p>\n<p>ClickBank announced new guidelines this week that are designed to tone down the level of hype. \u00a0Or to put it another way, guidelines that are more in line with FTC requirements. \u00a0Some aggressive marketers might not like this, but the fact is when a product is sold through ClickBank, the merchant in the transaction is ClickBank&#8230;not the product owner. \u00a0That means it&#8217;s ClickBank&#8217;s neck that is on the line with Mastercard, Visa, etc&#8230;not the product owner&#8217;s.<\/p>\n<p>It seems that ClickBank might be feeling some heat because of this arrangement, thus the new guidelines. \u00a0There is nothing groundbreaking about these guidelines as they are basically in line with what the FTC requires. \u00a0But specifically when using video in the marketing of ClickBank products, here are the highlights:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Your videos must allow the user to exit or pause the video (that means no video players that force the viewer to watch a video from beginning to end)<\/li>\n<li>No fictionalized videos that make false claims (telling a false story about a made up person)<\/li>\n<li>No non-fiction videos that make false claims (telling a false story about yourself)<\/li>\n<li>No videos using actors unless it&#8217;s disclosed the person in the video is an actor<\/li>\n<li>If using video testimonials with real customers, you must have signed documentation of the customer&#8217;s claims<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>There are a number of non-video related guideline changes as well&#8230;from using scarcity and pricing tactics, to upsells, to price disclosures and more. \u00a0It&#8217;s unclear how ClickBank will enforce these guidelines for existing products, but if they manage to do it, the ClickBank landscape is likely in for a big change.<\/p>\n<p>To see the complete list of new ClickBank guidelines, <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.clickbank.com\/help\/vendor-help\/vendor-basics\/selling-basics\/vendor-promotional-guidelines\/\" target=\"_blank\">click here<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Lots of people sell their products on ClickBank. \u00a0And lots of people do affiliate marketing where they promote ClickBank products. \u00a0In the world of Internet marketing, ClickBank is usually the place the latest &#8220;breakthroughs&#8221; are released. \u00a0It&#8217;s also more or less synonymous products loaded with hype. \u00a0But that&#8217;s about to change.
