{"id":434,"date":"2009-09-09T10:14:03","date_gmt":"2009-09-09T14:14:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/webvideouniversity.com\/blog\/?p=434"},"modified":"2009-09-09T10:14:03","modified_gmt":"2009-09-09T14:14:03","slug":"comcast-to-offer-100-mbps-internet-speeds","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/webvideouniversity.com\/blog\/2009\/09\/09\/comcast-to-offer-100-mbps-internet-speeds\/","title":{"rendered":"Comcast To Offer 100 Mbps Internet Speeds"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last week I <a href=\"http:\/\/webvideouniversity.com\/blog\/2009\/08\/31\/us-ranks-28th-in-the-world-for-internet-speed\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>did a post<\/strong><\/a> about the sorry state of Internet speeds in the United States.\u00a0 Yesterday, <strong>Comcast<\/strong> announced they will begin offering Internet speeds of <strong>100 Mbps<\/strong> to their business customers.<\/p>\n<p>Initially, only business subscribers in the Minneapolis, Minnesota area will have access to these high speeds.\u00a0 After that, the offering will be rolled out to subscribers in Boston, New Hampshire, Hartford, Philadelphia, Harrisburg, Pittsburgh, New Jersey, Atlanta, Baltimore, Chicago, Ft. Wayne, Chattanooga, Portland, Seattle and  San Francisco.<\/p>\n<p>Interestingly, <strong>Verizon Fios<\/strong>, a major competitor of Comcast, has always had the ability to offer 100 Mbps Internet connection speeds.\u00a0 But they don&#8217;t.\u00a0 Why?\u00a0 It&#8217;s because Verizon says that no one wants it.<\/p>\n<p>Comcast disagrees, saying businesses involved in markets like healthcare and real estate do want it because they often send and receive very large files&#8230;and that smaller businesses in these markets are being &#8220;underserved&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>But just how much will this new 100 Mbps service from Comcast cost?\u00a0 About $370 a month.\u00a0 And you will need a business account with Comcast to even be eligible.\u00a0 Makes it a little easier to understand why Verizon says they haven&#8217;t had a lot of demand for 100 Mbps service, doesn&#8217;t it?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Last week I did a post about the sorry state of Internet speeds in the United States.\u00a0 Yesterday, Comcast announced they will begin offering Internet speeds of 100 Mbps to their business customers.
