{"id":491,"date":"2009-09-28T14:34:57","date_gmt":"2009-09-28T18:34:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/webvideouniversity.com\/blog\/?p=491"},"modified":"2009-09-28T14:34:57","modified_gmt":"2009-09-28T18:34:57","slug":"how-a-single-web-video-made-an-entire-city-mad","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/webvideouniversity.com\/blog\/2009\/09\/28\/how-a-single-web-video-made-an-entire-city-mad\/","title":{"rendered":"How a Single Web Video Made An Entire City Mad"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Right now cities around the world are making a bid for the <em>2016 Summer Olympics<\/em>.\u00a0 <strong>Chicago<\/strong> is in the running.\u00a0 And so is <strong>Rio de Janeiro<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>But a one minute and 12 second web video&#8230;featuring around a dozen people&#8230;has the city of Chicago mad enough to spit.\u00a0 Why?\u00a0 Because in the video, these people (all from Chicago) say on camera that they don&#8217;t want the Olympics to come to Chicago&#8230;they want it to go to Rio de Janeiro instead.<\/p>\n<p>The video is on a one page web site called <a href=\"http:\/\/chicagoansforrio.com\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>ChicagoansForRio.com<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>And it&#8217;s made the city so mad they their Olympic bid committee instructed <em><strong>Fox News in Chicago<\/strong><\/em> to not report on the site.\u00a0 In fact, it was believed that the site was put up by an underground Rio de Janeiro group in an attempt to hurt Chicago&#8217;s chances for the 2016 Summer Olympics.\u00a0 Or as a founder of an Olympic related site put it, &#8220;To produce this video is quite a feat..that makes me think there&#8217;s something to this. There&#8217;s money behind it becasuse they produced that video&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Turns out the short video and one-page web site weren&#8217;t produced by a well-financed, underground Rio de Janeiro group.\u00a0 They were made by a 43 year-old ad copywriter from Chicago.\u00a0 He didn&#8217;t like the idea of the Olympics coming to Chicago, so he spent an afternoon shooting a video and put up the web site.<\/p>\n<p>The lesson here is how powerful web video can be&#8230;especially for the little guy.\u00a0 It can instantly turn things into <em>David vs. David<\/em> instead of <em>David vs. Goliath<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>To read the full story on how a one minute and 12 second web video sparked what some are calling an &#8220;international incident&#8221;, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nbcchicago.com\/news\/local-beat\/Chicago-Advertising-Copywriter-Behind-ChicagoansForRiocom-62364187.html\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>click here<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Right now cities around the world are making a bid for the 2016 Summer Olympics.\u00a0 Chicago is in the running.\u00a0 And so is Rio de Janeiro.
