I’m going to give it to you straight. Video shot on a smartphone will not look better than video shot on a DSLR or an expensive video camera. But in many situations, it can come pretty dang close.
Close enough that when you add things like shooting video on a smartphone is way more convenient, far easier, far quicker, far cheaper and has a lot fewer headaches…well, smartphone video becomes a lot more appealing.
That’s why 95% of the videos I shoot these days are done on a smartphone, while a room full of expensive video gear sits basically untouched. Yes me, the video guy who has been teaching people how to make videos for over a decade, uses a smartphone for nearly all of the videos I make these days.
It’s just common sense. If you can shoot videos that look almost as good as pro-level cameras…and do it way faster, easier and cheaper…why wouldn’t you?
So yes, you can absolutely use the smartphone sitting in your pocket right now to shoot marketing videos, instructional videos or any other type of video you need for your business. And guess what? No one will ever know you were using a smartphone.
That’s the stuff the marketing arms at companies like Apple, Samsung and Google want you to believe. In their commercials, you see dazzling videos that end with the words “shot on iPhone”, “shot on Pixel” and so on.
But you never catch the tiny disclaimer at the bottom which says “additional equipment and software used”. Here’s an example of what’s really going on behind the scenes in those sexy ads:
But here’s the good news – you don’t need any of that ridiculous equipment to shoot pro-quality videos with your smartphone. You don’t need gadgets, special software, apps or stuff that looks like it belongs in Hollywood. Those things are, quite frankly, a waste of money.
What you do need is just need a little bit of training. Someone to show you how…in simple terms…what to do and what not to do. Someone to walk you through the unique world of shooting pro-quality smartphone videos, for business.
That’s because smartphones are different animals when it comes to video – you have to do things that you would never do with “normal” video cameras. If you want pro-level video out of a smartphone, there are specific (and unique) techniques you need to use. Not gadgets and apps, but techniques.
I know because it’s taken me a few years to figure these techniques out…what works, what doesn’t, what to do and what not to do. In a way, I had to re-learn how to shoot video. I had to figure out how to take something that fits in your pocket (a smartphone)…and have it replace an entire room of video gear.
Was it worth the effort? Absolutely. I can make videos quicker (and with way less headaches), I’ve saved a small fortune in equipment, I’ve had a lot of fun and no one has been able to tell that I’m using a $449 iPhone SE instead of a big, $3,000 camera.
And now I’d like to share this knowledge and experience with you. So you can use your own smartphone to make videos faster and easier too…videos which rival those shot on cameras costing 5 times as much. I detail how you can do it in my new course called…
The name of the course pretty much says it all. I’m going to show you how to go from making the typical smartphone videos that suck…to making smartphone videos that people won’t believe came from a smartphone.
And all without using complicated apps or turning your smartphone into some ridiculous, giant, Frankenstein-like contraption.
The title of the course is a bit blunt. And so are the lessons. Everything is straight-to-the-point. I show you exactly what to do and leave out all of the blah, blah stuff.
With “normal video”, there are usually multiple ways to accomplish the same thing. But with smartphone video, there’s usually only one way…and I show you what that way is, for the type of video you’re shooting.
In other words, I’ve already gone through the process of figuring out what works. I’ve done all the trial and error. For you that means you get to skip the learning curve and go straight into making pro-quality videos with your smartphone…and in the shortest amount of time possible.
iPhone, Android Phone, Window Phone…whatever type of smartphone you have, this course will work for you. This course is about technique, not technology. The fact this that all smartphones handle video nearly the same because all smartphones use nearly the same camera technology. It’s 100% marketing hype if someone tells you differently.
Even Consumer Reports, who recently rated the top smartphones said “From a camera-quality standpoint, there’s very little variation among the top smartphones. In fact, the discrepancies among this group are so small that they could be chalked up to variations in our test samples.”.
That’s an old proverb from the world of photography which basically means if you learn to use what you have, you’ll never take a bad picture.
Here’s why this is important to you when it comes to smartphone video.
Odds are that you already have other video gear. And maybe you’re happy with it. But there will be times when a smartphone would be the easier choice. Or maybe your only choice.
With my course, you won’t have to hesitate or worry that something you shoot with your smartphone will suck. It’s quite the opposite. You’ll have the confidence in knowing that the video you shoot with your smartphone will be more than good enough for your business…and no fancy video gear is required.
Remember, your smartphone is a video camera that you ALWAYS have with you. You don’t have to unpack it from a bag, worry if the batteries are charged or try to remember a complicated menu system. It’s always there for you, ready to use. And if you learn how to use it properly…which I’ll show you how to do…you’ll never have to worry about shooting a bad video again.
This is one of my pet peeves. There’s plenty of “how to shoot smartphone video” stuff out there, but the people producing it conveniently don’t use a smartphone for their own marketing or training videos. It’s like saying “let me show you how to do something I don’t do myself”. Like a 500 pound guy teaching you fitness.
Well, the training videos you’ll see inside this course are 100% shot on a smartphone. You’ll see exactly what I use, exactly how I set everything up and exactly how the videos you’ll be watching were made. No bait and switch. No smoke and mirrors. I put my money where my mouth is.
And another thing that happens with typical smartphone training is that you’re expected to buy this app, this gadget or this thing to even make a video…where by the time you add everything up, you could have purchased a professional video camera instead. It’s insane and defeats the purpose of using a smartphone to begin with.
So let me be clear. I will tell you which specific gadgets are worth a closer look in my course…not only do I have a duty to do this, but people are always interested, so I have multiple lessons covering these things. But you don’t need any of them. You can make pro-quality smartphone videos without them. My course is about technique…not “additional software and equipment”, as Apple/Google/Samsung like to put in their tiny disclaimers.
The bottom line is that a smartphone is all you need for this course. It doesn’t matter who made that smartphone and it doesn’t matter if you’ve never made a video in your life. Just have a smartphone ready and I’ll show you how to do the rest.
