My how the Internet has evolved.
First it was dial-up on Compuserve and AOL. Now it’s broadband. First it was email. Now it’s Facebook, video and Twitter.
Speaking of Twitter, there’s a winery in California that wants to pay someone $10,000 a month to tweet about wine. They call it the “Really Goode Job” (they put the “E” on Good because “Goode” is in the name of the winery).
This no doubt is a copycat style promotion, based off the famous “Best Job In The World” formula. But it goes to show you just how powerful social media (i.e. new media) has become as a marketing tool. People are generating millions of dollars worth of free publicity (not to mention profits) by totally bypassing traditional media.
If you want further proof, ask the Chinese government who are currently banning both Twitter and YouTube in China, due to the Tiananmen Square anniversary. Or American newspapers, who are holding on by a thread…and even Warren Buffet says he wouldn’t invest a nickel in them.
But back to making $10,000 a month tweeting about wine. I don’t drink, so I’m neither qualified or interested in the job.
However, if you are, you can read more about it in this LA Times article…and even apply for the job here.
