Comcast To Offer 100 Mbps Internet Speeds

C

Last week I did a post about the sorry state of Internet speeds in the United States.  Yesterday, Comcast announced they will begin offering Internet speeds of 100 Mbps to their business customers.

Initially, only business subscribers in the Minneapolis, Minnesota area will have access to these high speeds.  After that, the offering will be rolled out to subscribers in Boston, New Hampshire, Hartford, Philadelphia, Harrisburg, Pittsburgh, New Jersey, Atlanta, Baltimore, Chicago, Ft. Wayne, Chattanooga, Portland, Seattle and San Francisco.

Interestingly, Verizon Fios, a major competitor of Comcast, has always had the ability to offer 100 Mbps Internet connection speeds.  But they don’t.  Why?  It’s because Verizon says that no one wants it.

Comcast disagrees, saying businesses involved in markets like healthcare and real estate do want it because they often send and receive very large files…and that smaller businesses in these markets are being “underserved”.

But just how much will this new 100 Mbps service from Comcast cost?  About $370 a month.  And you will need a business account with Comcast to even be eligible.  Makes it a little easier to understand why Verizon says they haven’t had a lot of demand for 100 Mbps service, doesn’t it?
