Vimeo, the video sharing site long known for it’s excellent video quality, has announced they will both accept and display full HD (1080p) videos by the end of the month.
Anyone will be able to watch full HD videos from Vimeo, but only Vimeo Plus members will be able to upload them (Plus memberships cost about $60 a year).
A couple of notes about this…
YouTube began offering full HD uploads…for free…a few months ago. So they beat Vimeo at the pricing game. But then again, Vimeo’s trademark is video quality, while YouTube’s is not.
Vimeo does not accept any commercial videos, period. That means you can’t upload any type of video that markets or sells anything. The Vimeo community is geared more towards creative-types, who like to share their (non-commercial) work.
It’s also a great place to view footage from different video cameras…and see the type of footage those cameras produce. Very helpful if you’re planing on purchasing a new video camera.
