You probably haven’t heard of it. And you may even have strong opinions against it. But it’s already starting to happen and is predicted to eventually catch fire. What is it? Video playdates. Where kids play with each other over video calls instead of in person.
The idea is for kids to be able to play with each other when they are geographically far away. Or if they’re down the street and it’s raining out. University researchers are already studying it’s pros and cons…along with the help of companies like Microsoft. And new products specifically for video playdates are expected to be available in the near future.
Kids seem to like it too. “This is a lot of fun and it’s actually better than being in the same room because we’re not hurting each other”, stated one child in an on-going study.
I’m not making this up. You can see the full story on CNN’s web site here.
