iPhone 5 and iPad 2 Release Dates Moved Back

i

Originally, the iPhone 5 was set to be released in July 2011 and the iPad 2 in April of 2011.  But now so-called “inside sources” are reporting the iPhone 5 won’t arrive until September and the iPad 2 won’t make an appearance until June.  Why the delay?

Some are saying it’s a production issue…they can’t get the parts to make enough of them fast enough.  Other’s are saying it’s because Apple is still tinkering with prototypes of the new units.  Most notably when it comes to the iPhone 5, a possible slide-out, physical keyboard (I’ll believe that when I see it).

In related news, the much ballyhooed iPad competitor, the Motorola Xoom is set to be released on February 24, 2011 with a price ranging from $600 to $800.  For those keeping score, the Motorola Xoom promised user’s access to the “full web”, which was basically a swipe at Apple for not supporting Flash on the iPad.

The punch line? The Motorola Xoom won’t support Flash either.  At least not initially.  That’s because Adobe hasn’t completed the proprietary plugin for it.  And there’s no timeline on when it will be complete and available to Xoom user’s…other than the vague statement of “in the spring 2011”.  How’s that for a marketing faux pas?

UPDATE: Well, so much for “inside sources”.  Then new iPad 2 will be available for order on March 11, 2011.  And in two colors, no less.
