Six years ago in May, two guys started a user-generated video sharing site. They called it YouTube. I doubt that on it’s sixth birthday they could have imagined the behemoth it has turned into. For example, here are the latest stats on YouTube as it turns six:
- 48 – That’s the number of hours of video now upload to YouTube every minute. That’s double the number that was upload to YouTube in 2009.
- 3 Billion – That’s the number of videos viewed on YouTube every day. That’s 50% higher than it was just a year ago.
- 350 Million – That’s the number of devices used to watch videos on YouTube.
- 50% – Based on daily video views, that’s the the percentage of the world’s population that watches a video on YouTube every day.
- 9 – Based on daily video views, that’s how many videos that people in the U.S. watch on YouTube every day.
Anyway YouTube, happy birthday. And I’m glad I don’t have your bandwidth bill.
