Creative Labs is creating buzz today with the release of their newest web cam, the Creative Live! Cam inPerson HD. It features an on-board H.264 processor for the highest quality video available in a webcam (internal H.264 processors allow webcams to do HD video) and an array of four, noise-cancelling microphones.
Small it isn’t. The inPerson HD Webcam comes in at around 9 inches long. The reason for this design is the quad microphone array, where four separate microphones are spaced out evenly along the 9-inch frame.
It is a Skype certified camera and offers full HD, 1080P broadcasting. However, for web video chats, it does 720P.
As this is a brand-new camera, no one has had a chance to do a hands-on review. The street price is $149, but Amazon currently has it listed for $130 (it’s not in stock on Amazon at the time of this post though).
You have a knack for finding the cool stuff, Dave.
I’d really be interested to see what on-board processing they use for the h.264 compression. More specifically, I’d like to see the components and schematics as I know there a handful of off the shelf h.264 processing ICs, but maybe they are using a microcontroller. Who knows? I’d like to though 🙂
Dave, do you know if the video camera settings allows for zooming in and out?
Thanks,
Rich
