A company called Zion Eyez is in the process of developing Ray-Ban-like sunglasses that shoot HD video. The glasses, called Eyez, will allow users to put the glasses on, tap a button and stream live video of whatever they see to certain streaming sites or record the video to internal Flash memory.
The Eyez glasses will record 720p video from a tiny camera built into the front side of the glasses. A rechargeable battery, mini USB port, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth will also be built into the glasses. The glasses themselves will feature clear or tinted interchangeable lenses.
For streaming live, the glasses will initially work with Qik and Livestream. If you prefer to record video to the glasses’ 8GB of internal memory, the footage can be transferred via the mini-USB port or wirelessly to iOS and Android devices (with the use of apps installed on those devices).
The Eyez glasses will retail for an estimated $199. But footage from the glasses isn’t yet available, because the glasses don’t actually exist…at least not in consumer form. Zion Eyez is funding the project through Kickstarter. They’ve met their funding goal for developing the glasses, but they aren’t expected to start shipping until winter 2011.
