How To Easily Send and Receive Very Large Files

H

If you’ve spent any time working with video, there’s one thing you know for sure; video files can be very, very large.

But what happens, for example, if you need to send a video file to a client across the country or in another part of the world…or even to a friend just across town?  The file will be way too large to email…and setting up a page where they can download it can be a hassle.

A service that solves this problem is called YouSendIt.  With YouSendIt, you simply upload the file to your account, specify an email address (or addresses) where you want the file delivered and click send.  The recipient will receive an email notification with a secure download link to the file.

Depending upon the type of account you have with YouSendIt, you can send and receive files from 100MB in size (free account) up to 2GB in size (paid account).

And notice I said receive too.  With YouSendIt, not only can you send people large files, but they can send you large files too (they don’t need an account).  The service even includes free plugins for Outlook and popular photo and video editing programs.

YouSendIt is the defacto service used by many video producers to send and receive video files.  It’s dead-simple to use (if you can upload a file and click send you’re in business) and it’s very reliable.  In fact, I use the service all the time.

How much does it cost?  Well, that depends on what you want to do.  There is a free version that allows you to send and receive files up to 100MB in size.  Paid versions run anywhere from $10 to $30 a month, allow you to send and receive files up to 2GB in size and also include very useful additional tools.

If you’d like to check out YouSendIt for yourself, just go to their site at http://www.yousendit.com.  Again, it’s a service I personally use and highly recommend.
