iPad Killer HP Slate Rumored To Be Cancelled

i

About a month ago, right before the first iPads were released, HP pimped marketing videos for their competing product, called the HP Slate, which ran Windows 7.  Now it’s rumored that HP is dropping the Slate entirely, or at the very least, Windows 7 from the Slate.

The reason seems to be performance and battery life…they just can’t seem to match the iPad under the Windows 7 operating system.  It’s speculated that a different Slate might still be released, running either a Google or Palm operating system (HP just acquired Palm).

And even more bad news for iPad killers.  It’s rumored that Microsoft has also dropped plans for their dual-screen tablet called the Courier.  But the Courier was never publicly announced or acknowledged as a product anyway.

Incidentally, Steve Jobs just announced that 1 million iPads have been sold (in half the time it took to sell 1 million iPhones).  The latest surge in sales came from just released 3G versions of the iPad.  There have been some complaints about the 3G iPad’s though…you can read the details on Notebooks.com by clicking here.

  • I’ll never buy an Ipod/Iphone/Ipad for one reason. Why does Apple have to have their own version of everything that isn’t compatible with anything else?

For example, the .mp3 itself. The music standard for the world but no, Apple has to have their own music format, the .aac which doesn’t play on any devices except Apple.

Why wouldn’t the Ipad have a standard USB input?

Back to the topic, I think it would be cool if they released the Slate on Android/Chrome OS. Something’s gotta try to compete with and jump up Ipad’s momentum. Too bad Apple didn’t do another exclusive deal with At&t for the Ipad!
