Ice Road Truckers is a popular reality show on the History Channel. They follow truckers as they haul heavy loads on ice roads to the oil fields in Alaska. But how many video cameras does it take to shoot these truckers as they perform their dangerous jobs? Turns out the answer is 75.
The crew prefers Sony cameras, both XDCAM and HDV models. And it’s usually a crew of three people shooting each driver…a producer in the truck with the driver and a director of photography with an assistant following behind in a chase vehicle.
They also have to endure a myriad of challenges…from freezing temperatures (not good for cameras), to low light (not good for cameras), to 12-18 hour days. Couple that with a mountain of footage…from multiple cameras…that then has to be edited.
For those into video, it’s actually an interesting process. And you can get the whole story from DV.com by clicking here.
