With the growing popularity of DSLR cameras that shoot video, a growing issue for people shooting video outdoors with these cameras has popped up too; the outside glare hits the camera’s LCD screen and you can’t see anything. While there a number of do-it-yourself solutions, from holding up your hands to block the glare, to using an umbrella, to throwing a towel over your camera, for those wanting a more concrete solution there is the Hoodman HoodLoupe.
The HoodLoupe is essentially a viewfinder that is placed on top of the camera’s LCD screen. It can be manually placed on the LCD screen as needed, or it’s also available in a kit with the HoodCrane, which allows you to semi-permantenly attach the HoodLoupe to your camera and swing it into place as needed.
The HoodLoupe by itself runs around $80. In kit form, the price jumps to around $200. But for those continually frustrated by this common outdoor problem, it can be money well spent. Here’s a link to the HoodLoupe and below is a short video demonstrating it:

Cool product. Almost one of those “why didn’t I think of that” gizmos. Thanks for sharing Dave.
