Google has announced new procedures where they will de-index web pages illegally using copyrighted content in as little as 24 hours. Previously, if Google received complaints about copyright infringement it took weeks, months and often never for them to respond.
This was because of the large number of erroneous complaints they received, which all had to be sifted through. But now they have new “procedures” in place that quickly weed through the request. Or as Google puts it “By building better tools and processes, starting with Blogger and Web search, we can make it easier for copyright owners to submit complete takedown requests that we can act on in 24 hours or less”.
Google’s new approach to copyright infringement was born out of necessity…they were sued by Viacom for massive copyright infringement on YouTube. Although they “won” the case, it is being appealed. So they’re just getting their ducks in a row.
But for all the web site owners who steal content from other web site owners, well, I guess they’ll have to take the drastic action of actually producing their own content.

I just hope they get it right… I’m not overly impressed with what they judge as copyright infringement music wise!
Sounds fairly one sided? I must find out more on this issue.
If you get de-indexed and then clear your site of the said copyrighted material how long to get re-indexed?
Dave, can you also give us the URL where you found this out from?
Dave please publish the source of this news. I’d like to read more about it.
@doublejnyc – I don’t think anyone can answer that, including Google, but they would be the ones to ask.
