Follow One Woman As She Launches a New Business

F

This post is a bit personal in nature, as it involves my niece, Megan.

You see Megan is about to embark for training to become a pastry chef.  She’ll be attending one of the top schools in the world, the French Pastry School in Chicago.  After graduating, Megan plans to start her own pastry business.

Well actually, she already has started the business, as she routinely takes orders from people who hear about the pastries she creates “part-time”.

But the interesting part here is that Megan will be documenting her journey from idea, to schooling, to “official” business launch.  And she’ll be doing it using new media…blogs and eventually (hopefully) web video.

The idea is that by the time she officially opens her doors, she will have already grown an audience…some of whom becoming immediate customers.

And guess what?  You can start watching this entire process…now.  You see, Megan has started a blog detailing her favorite pastry recipes…and…her journey.  It’s called The Pastry Case and you can see it here.

This is going to be a very interesting project to watch…for anyone who wants to use new media to leverage a business online or off.

Pay particular attention to the quality of the content Megan includes in her blog.  It’s not just a collection of receipes…she’s sharing a piece of herself in every post…and this is critical to “relationship marketing”, a powerful component of new media.

Here’s a link to Megan’s blog again.  Be sure to subscribe to her RSS feed, leave her some comments and start following her interesting journey.  There’s going to be a lot we can all learn from it.
