There are dozens and dozens of services available that let you tracks all sorts of statistics for your web pages…but when it comes to web video…statistics are sorely lacking.
In most cases, you know that someone watched your video (or at least started to watch it), but that’s about it. And if you want more detailed analysis, such as how long someone watched your video, at what point they clicked away or where and when they scrubbed through your video, well historically, you had to be a big player in the web video world.
But as web video continues to grow and evolve, advanced statistics are starting to trickle down to the “regular people”.
And one of the most interesting developments in this marketplace comes from Wistia. They’ve just introduced what they call video heat mapping. Now if you’re familiar with heat mapping on HTML pages, well, video heat mapping is not exactly the same thing.
It is however one of the slickest ways to view advanced web video statistics, in real-time, that I’ve seen. Unfortunately, you must be a Wistia customer to use video heat mapping, but nonetheless their demo is worth a look. It’s where the future of web video statistics are going.

Very cool, Dave! We plan to give this a shot. I’ll let you know how it works for us.
Dave, you’ve nailed it. Our goal is to bring the powerful tracking that was previously only available to bigger players to “normal” people and applications.
Thanks again for the mention!
