Vimeo Adds Advanced Web Video Statistics For Paying Users

V

For all of the popularity of web video, web video statistics are still somewhat in their infancy.  Statistics for web video must be tracked by the player a video appears in, so it’s up to the company or individual who owns a particular video player to develop their own stats package to be used with it.  Well, that’s not entirely true…there are 3rd party statistical services that allow you to integrate their platform into your video players, but they are pretty expensive.

The end result is that web video statistics are lagging far behind the statistics anyone can easily obtain for regular web pages.  But things are improving.

Popular video sharing site Vimeo has introduced an advanced statistical package called PlusStats.  With this new package, you’ll be able to tracks advanced statistics for your videos like loads and plays by geographic region or web site, how many people watched your video from beginning to end, playback quality of the video and more.

The catch is that PlusStats is only available to Vimeo Plus members, who pay from $10 a month to $60 a year, to be Vimeo Plus members.  In any event, their new advanced statistical package does put them ahead of the game when it comes to their major competitor, YouTube.

  • Dave, Thanks for the great information and tips. I love Vimeo but unfortunately they don’t allow any videos for commercial or business use and not even with their paid accounts. 🙁

  • Thanks for the info Dave! Glad i found this site.

John, how exactly does Vimeo enforce that rule? Sounds a little counter-intuitive to offer advanced statistics to people who aren’t selling their videos.
