BlackBerry PlayBook Unveiled – Does Just About Everything An iPad Does, And Doesn’t

B

Yesterday RIM unveiled BlackBerry’s much-rumored iPad competitor, the BlackBerry PlayBook.  Due to arrive in early 2011 and with no price set yet, the PlayBook has much of the functionality of current iPads…while also throwing in much of what the iPad lacks.

For example, a dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, front and rear-facing cameras that shoot both still photos and HD video, the ability to multi-task, the ability to watch both Flash and HTML5 videos and non-proprietary ports (think USB and HDMI).  As this is a product still under development, there’s not much known beyond that.  But the video below gives a nice demonstration of the features:

  • I agree, NB – probably the best thing about this device is that it will stimulate Apple to include the features they should have put in the iPad in the first place, like the ability to connect USB devices and use an iPhone as a modem.

  • Dave, this does look great, but it’s been pointed out on the tech blogs that the video doesn’t actually show a working unit. We’re watching CGI showing what they hope the OS will look and feel like.

This isn’t really the announcement for a product with specs that will be available soon, but a teaser for what they’re hoping to get to market.
