Amazon Offering Free Cloud Hosting, Storage and Bandwidth For A Year

A

Starting November 1, 2010, in an effort to introduce people to Amazon Web Services at no-risk, Amazon is offering free cloud hosting to new customers for an entire year.  Here’s a brief look at what they’re offering:

750 hours of Amazon EC2 Linux Micro Instance usage (613 MB of memory and 32-bit and 64-bit platform support) every month

5 GB of Amazon S3 storage every month

30 GB per of internet data transfer (15 GB of data transfer “in” and 15 GB of data transfer “out” across all services except Amazon CloudFront) every month

So what’s the catch? There is none.  Or as Amazon explains it “We’re excited to introduce a free usage tier for new AWS customers to help them get started on AWS.  Everyone from entrepreneurial college students to developers at Fortune 500 companies can now launch new applications at zero expense and with the peace of mind that they can instantly scale to accommodate growth.”

If you’re new to Amazon Web Services, would like to learn more and even sign-up for the free package, just click here.

  • Like every company out there.. the priority is on *new* customers. Once a customer.. the retention is model is.. uptime and problem free.

I’ve used S3 services since taking your Web University class and it has worked out very well. I just wish Amazon would give this type of incentive or some perks to existing customers.

  • Glad for all the new customers, but for us existing customers it’s basically a slap in the head.

I’m gonna cancel my S3 account and find a host that rewards their current customers.

Kinda like inviting over a new family in town and feeding them filet mignon and then giving your own family meatloaf when they come over.

Ass backwards, I believe, is the proper term 😉
