On Thursday YouTube quietly removed the 15 minute time limit for video uploads on most accounts. By most accounts, I mean, according to YouTube, those accounts “with a history of complying with the YouTube Community Guidelines and copyright rules”.
So how long can a video now be that is uploaded to YouTube? No one knows for sure, but a few users have reported success with videos up to 2.5 hours long.
How do you know if your account has had the time limit removed? It’s simple. Just log into your YouTube account and choose upload. If upload limits have been removed on your account you’ll see a message like this:

Hi Dave –
I saw the news about YouTube removing the time limits elsewhere on the web, but wasn’t sure how to find out whether my account had been included in the change. Thank you for showing where this information is displayed (on the upload page).
Unfortunately, I don’t see that message on my page. I have only a handful of videos posted, but they’ve all been my own screencasting work without music or anything copyrighted. Is there any way to find out from YouTube why my account is not included in the new policy? Or to request my account to have access?

@Eric Bobrow – You’d have to contact Google/YouTube directly and ask.
