It’s been about a year since Canon released the excellent, budget-minded Canon Rebel T2i…a camera that put the beauty of DSLR video into the hands of many, without spending thousands. And now Canon has announced an updated model, the Rebel T3i.
So what’s new and improved about it? From a video standpoint, not much. It’s still the same sensor and shoots the same video. The biggest new feature is an articulating screen that you can flip out, just like you can do with regular video cameras (and just like the more expensive Canon 60D already features). It’s also claimed to have a digital zoom, which some people will be happy to have and other’s will never use.
Aside from that, the upgrades are mostly minor and mostly on the photo side of things. And the pricing remains the same as the original T2i…around $800 for the body-only model. If you’re already a T2i owner, the most compelling reason to upgrade is the articulating viewfinder. But if you wouldn’t have a use for that, you can probably stick with what you have.

Interesting timing on the release of this new entry in the Canon DSLR arena with it’s many overlapping features.
Looking forward to your review of its video capabilities when it hits the market.
I have been vacillating between buying the 60D with the articulating viewfinder and the lower priced T21 that you enticed us with when you reviewed it and now yet another ‘dark horse’ entry into the DSLR-HD looks like it might combine the features of both with a more affordable price tag.
Does it have Mic Jack? And is it Stereo?
