Video Tutorial: Cool Color Correction In Final Cut Pro

V

Every so often these days you’ll see a commercial done in black and white…but where a person or an object appears in color. For example, the commercial will show traffic in New York City with everything black and white. But then, a yellow taxi moves through the scene.

In fact, the 1998 film Pleasantville (starring Tobey Maguire and Reese Witherspoon) appeared in black and white…with color being added to the characters as they became “enlightened”.

So how is this technique done? And you can you do it with your videos too? You sure can. In the video tutorial below, I show you exactly how to do it using Final Cut Pro (if you’re a Firefox user, you’ll need to be using Firefox 3.0 or above to watch this video):

  • Fisrt of all, let me tell you that you literally changed my life. Learning from your tutorial did the job! I loved how you explain how tu put color to a specific image (like the yellow flower) making the rest look greay. However, is there a way I could use this effect on several elements of a shot, lets say for example, 3 elements on a single shot, want them to be the only elements with color and the rest to appear in grey. The thing is that all 3 elements should be in different colors (example, red, blue, yellow). Is it possible using the same tehcnique you show in your tutorial? http://www.webvideouniversity.com/blog/media/blog_fcponecolor.html
