What’s the best video camera to use is a question I get a lot. As a result, I’ve done several video camera reviews on my podcast site. But today I thought we’d take a look at what someone else has to say about video cameras.
That someone else is Cali Lewis of GeekBrief.TV (by the way, you can see a video interview I did with Cali about a year ago here). Turns out that just like me, Cali gets the “what’s the best video camera to use” question a lot too.
So below is a video where Cali reviews three different cameras…from high-priced professional cameras to portable pocket cameras:
Notice that Cali, just like me, also recommends the Canon Vixia HF S10 (or any camera in the Canon Vixia line). However, she didn’t include any footage from the Vixia HF S10 in her review. If you’d like to see footage from the HF S10, you can watch my own video review of it by clicking here.

Hi Guys,
Just a quick post to endorse (unpaid FTC!) any recommendation that Dave makes. I bought a Canon HV30 on his advice and it has been a truly excellent camera.
I also can’t recommend the web video university course highly enough. It’s absolutely fantastic content and value. Within a week I’d done my first video and once my client’s saw it they wanted one. I am now making them regularly for clients, which is easy work and highly profitable.
Keep up the great work.
Simon
It all sounds good….but what the hell is Cali Lewis talking about?
Slow down, Cali and explain slowly to a newcomer like me. Geez, I’m more confused now!!
Yes I thought she went rather quick but it’s a quick n dirty world LOL – No time to lose our short attention spans 🙂
I’m also new – and still mulling cameras. I’m afraid if I don’t get something like a sony FX 1 or something – a client is gonna laugh at my “tiny” camera
Does anyone know what she’s talking about when she says “we turned off the ‘key-no-flows'” when reviewing the Zi-8?
The video looks great with the blue background, but horrible with incandescent lights. So I would like to know what she’s doing to make it look so good before the incandescent shot.
Thanks,
Dave
@Dave – She is referring to the Kino Flo Diva lights they use:
